The Odd-Fellows were among those who gathered in Mountain Lake Park. The charitable group was one of the first of its kind to admonish segregation, allowing people of color to join their ranks.

The Epworth League became a fixture at summer camp meetings. Trains would transport youth groups by the hundreds to enjoy the mountaintop retreat.
